Why choose the Jimny for a Tunisia raid?

On the Grand Erg Oriental, weight, torque and ground clearance matter more than vehicle size. The Suzuki Jimny AllGrip (~1.2 t, selectable 4×4) handles dune crests and sebkhas without the inertia of a large SUV. Each driver gets a private Jimny and follows the desert opener’s roadbook — you do not share the wheel.

Groups are capped at 6–10 people per Saturday departure from Djerba. Fuel, comprehensive vehicle insurance, chase support and a camp mechanic are included. Recent automatic Jimnys go where larger 4×4s cannot, while remaining easy to drive after the day-2 sand briefing. Season runs October–May (typical daytime 20–26°C); no Jimny departures in summer.

7-day itinerary from Djerba

Southern Tunisia loop: Djerba → Tataouine (Chenini) → Ksar Ghilane → Tembaine → Lost World Camp → Chott el-Jérid / Tozeur → Matmata → Djerba. Saturday departure. Tracks, dunes and oases with a French-speaking guide; dune-driving briefing from day 2.

1. D1 — Djerba · Saturday

   Airport meet (DJE), hotel transfer, private Jimny AllGrip handover, ~2-hour technical briefing and safety check. Lunch included; 3★ hotel night in Djerba.

2. D2 — Djerba → Tataouine → Ksar Ghilane · Sunday

   Into the jebel, tracks, sand-driving training, sunset. Hot-spring swim at Ksar Ghilane, 1-hour camel ride included. Night: private camp.

3. D3 — Ksar Ghilane → Grand Erg → Camp Mars Tembaine · Monday

   A full day in the dunes around Tembaine. Dune-reading and obstacle workshops with the opener. Night: Tembaine camp.

4. D4 — Tembaine → Lake Haouithat → Camp Mars · Tuesday

   Technical loop toward the lake, GPS + radio. Night: private camp (Lost World / Camp Mars depending on weather).

5. D5 — Tembaine → Nafta (Mos Espa) → Tozeur · Wednesday

   Crossing Chott el-Jérid and the Star Wars sets of Mos Espa in Nafta when the track allows. Night: 3★ hotel in Tozeur.

6. D6 — Tozeur → Douz → Matmata · Thursday

   Tracks toward Douz, then Matmata troglodyte villages. Night in a troglodyte house or hotel.

7. D7 — Return to Djerba · Friday

   Jimny hand-back, debrief, lunch included, airport transfer. End of the Jimny 4x4 raid Tunisia (7 days / 6 nights).

A private circuit: expedition spirit with hotel nights and camps reserved for the group. The route may change with weather and group level, for everyone’s safety.

Preparation: level and checklist

Driver level required

• Minimum age 23 to drive; passengers from age 7 (−50%)
• Category B licence (national or international) held for at least 2 years
• Dune or soft-sand experience recommended (mandatory sand briefing D1 / D2)
• Moderate fitness: walks of 1 hour at most on sand; not suitable for people with reduced mobility
• Ability to drive several hours a day in dry heat and dust
